A Light in the Darkness
April 2021, Medium: acrylic on canvas
For my final project, I wanted to create a painting based on the doodles I have been doing as part of the “let’s relax” section of my weekly journals. When completing these journal doodles, I would put on the song I chose to represent that day and create an expressionistic and emotive drawing based on the feelings that the music evokes. This provides me with a therapeutic outlet utilizing both my love of art and music. My painting combines many images from my weekly journals to create a collage, with a singular music note in the center. The images around the music note are in black and white while the music note is in color and appears to be glowing, symbolizing music as my light of hope throughout this school year. My painting combines the themes of anxiety and sadness and demonstrates how I use both music and art allow me to relieve stress.
